Calling all T-Birds and Pink Ladies! Time to grease up your locks and don your favourite leather jacket. Grease is coming to Cayman this Summer, courtesy of the Cayman Drama Society (CDS). As the film celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, The Prospect Playhouse is bringing audiences back to Rydell High, from May 31 to June 23.
The Cayman Drama Society has provided community theatre to the Cayman Islands for nearly 50 years, presenting numerous productions throughout the season, as well as training and workshops for aspiring thespians of all ages. Grease continues the CDS’s spirited show schedule, which over the last several years has included other acclaimed musicals such as Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Footloose and Legally Blonde.
Grease is produced by Andrew and Beverly Edgington, with musical direction by Simon Donoghue and choreography by the Centre Point Dance Studio. The show also welcomes first-time CDS director Matthew Pellow. Originally from the Cayman Islands, Pellow graduated from the University of Toronto. Having played Danny Zuko himself during his theatrical career, Pellow shares a great love for the classic production.
Over 30 CDS members, all residents of the Islands, will take the stage this Summer to transport audiences back to the days of doo-wop, drive-ins and dance-offs. Tickets are available at cds.ky.
