Pick one of these romantic spots on the Sister Islands to pop the question or say “I do.”
Love is in the air in the Sister Islands, where you’ll find some of the most beautiful spots for proposing or tying the knot. Couples seeking that extra something can’t resist the mixture of turquoise waters, beautiful wildlife and lush foliage that are an integral part of Little Cayman and Cayman Brac. Here are some of our favourite spots to share that special moment for love and commitment.
With its pink sand and secluded setting, Point of Sand is one of the most romantic spots to propose marriage. Located on the eastern side of Little Cayman, this beach is an invitation to couples to bring along a bottle of Champagne and a picnic basket to celebrate.
Another private spot is Owen Island, across the bay from Little Cayman. With its gorgeous beaches and tropical greenery, this uninhabited island makes an irresistible place to pop the question. To get to this idyllic hideaway, couples can take a kayak or a Hobie Cat and paddle across the bay. Don’t forget to take in the sunset on the western side of the Island, advises Neil van Niekerk, president of the Sister Islands Tourism Association.
With a backdrop of stunning blue waters as well as the infrastructure, most resorts are the perfect choice for a small intimate ceremony with family and friends. One of those special places is Southern Cross Club. Featuring 900 feet of white-sand beachfront and casual elegance, Southern Cross makes an unforgettable venue for a wedding ceremony and reception to celebrate with loved ones.
Another romantic location to say “I do” is Little Cayman Beach Resort. The barefoot bride and groom will always remember Cayman’s famous azure waters just steps away and palm trees rustling in the sea breeze as they say their vows.
Cayman BracOne of the most dramatic landscapes to ask for your S.O.’s hand in marriage is on Cayman Brac. The 12-mile island is famous for its limestone bluff that juts into the sea, offering stunning panoramic views of the ocean.
Another option for a romantic proposal is venturing out to the lighthouse on the Bluff when the moon is bright with a blanket and a bottle of wine in tow. The moon’s reflection on the sea reminds lovers of how profound the beauty of nature is along with their love.
What never goes out of style is a candlelit dinner under the stars. With the sea on one side of the table and the sounds of birds in the trees nearby, your loved one is sure to say “yes.”
For a wedding ceremony, Cayman Brac also offers several idyllic locations along the shore. One option is Brac Beach Villas, located in a private area by the sea. Sara Macias of Sandy Toes Weddings says it’s one of her favourite places to plan a wedding. The Villas accommodates 16 people and is a lovely venue to invite family and friends.
Another incredible option for nuptials is Cayman Brac Beach Resort. Surrounded by lush foliage, palm trees and starry moonlit skies, the couple will feel like they’ve escaped into their own tropical paradise.
Proposing at Crystal Caves
Cayman Crystal Caves, a cave system nestled in the heart of North Side on Grand Cayman, is an awe-inspiring location for a romantic proposal. Couples will be captivated by its raw beauty as they make their way from the lush tropical jungle to the opening of the caves. At the foot of the entrance, ancient roots of trees from an overhanging cliff plunge down several feet. Once inside, couples will walk through the grottoes and tunnels within the caves system, observing the stalactites dramatically reaching toward them from overhead and the stalagmites growing upward from the earth’s floor. In one cave, a shimmering pool of water is fed from a nearby spring, magnifying the rock formations throughout the cave.
On one recent tour, a visitor dropped to one knee and asked for his girlfriend’s hand in marriage. Absolutely stunned by the surprise proposal, she happily agreed to spend the rest of their lives together.
